How can you build up credit when you keep getting denied credit cards?

For the last week I have been applying for a credit card and being denied based on my lack of credit history. My question is what can I do to fix that? If I were to get either a cell phone or a netflix account would they help contribute positively to my credit score?

no. Just go to walmart and open a charge account. They approve anyone. Youre creditline may only be 200$ but soon it’ll go up and everyone will approve you IF you make your payments on time!

No, Netflix and cell phone accounts will not “build credit” as they are not considered to be extensions of credit and are not reported to credit bureaus (unless you default on an account). You may need to start with a secured credit card. See here: .

CC issuers have been running this scam for years and years. Convincing people they NEED credit cards to build credit. I haven’t had a CC for over 24 years. Hasn’t affected my ability to buy a home (3 years ago) or refinanced my current home (last month). Build a savings account first with a respectable balance.
Note that every time you apply for a loan or CC, whether approved or not, dings your credit score. Hard inquires generated by your loan/credit applications aren’t good. So, if you’re not approved on the first two, don’t keep trying. Each time you apply, you score drops and your chances of getting approved lessen.
