What credit card would you recommend for a college student?
Azzz doggg asked:
This will be my first credit card.
This will be my first credit card.
I am not planning on carrying any balance. I just want to build my credit history. I am making enough money to cover any purchases and plan to pay in full each month, so I don’t really care about the interest rate.

American Express-because when your spending money you are earning points…know what im saying, your spending your money and your getting some of it back…after you get points you can see what you can get (either call them or go on their web site) and more points you have the better gift you can receive. you can earn trips, all sorts of other stuff.

First and foremost, find a no annual fee card! Most of the big banks have them. I’d avoid Capital One because they have some odd credit reporting procedures. My 19-year-old likes his Am. Expess and his Discover cards. His first card was with Orchard Bank. If you have any military connections at all, check out USAA. They are incredible, but deal with military and military connected people. I have a Barclay’s Mastercard which serves me quite well.

Hello gomanyes!
Good to hear that you plan to get a credit card to build your credit rating, instead of making purchase on credit like most college students do.
You’ve plenty of choice since interest rate is not a concern.
To choose the suitable college student credit card, it is pretty much depends on your purchases habit and lifestyle.
For example if you drive, maybe Discover Open Road for Students is a good choice as you’re enjoying cash rebates for gas and auto maintenance purchases.
Another interesting card is the Citi mtvu which rewards college student with good grades, starting from GPA 2.50 onwards.
Take note that some college student cards required you to have income or else co-signer(your parents) is required.
Hope this help.
